Volunteer Elderly

As our elderly clients often live alone with no or low family support, a visit means the world to them. CAN (Caring Assistance from Neighbours) Carers conduct regular home visitations to provide a listening to ear to them and monitor their condition.

CAN Carers

  1. Conduct regular home visitations
  2. Monitor senior’s well-being
  3. Frequency: from weekly to monthly. Minimum of 30 mins each visit (can be done on weekends)
  4. Location: Hougang / Serangoon or Choa Chu Kang / Bukit Panjang

Requirements:

  • 18 and above
  • Passionate to serve underprivileged and isolated seniors.
  • Abide to our Fei Yue and Cluster Support policy.
  • Able to perform independently with minimal supervision.
  • Responsive in communication with VE and Social Worker.
  • Submit monthly work record sheet on time.

Community Befriender Programme (CBP)

  1. Befriend seniors in the neighbourhood
  2. Make phone calls
  3. Arrange home visits

Requirements:

  • Aged 50 and above
  • Ability to speak simple dialect preferred

Administrative Support

  1. Key in data entries
  2. Assist in general enquiries (for example: helping seniors interpret letters)
  3. Assist in photocopying
  4. In charge of the reception
  5. Take attendance for seniors
  6. Assist in voucher exchange (stamps for food rations)
  7. Manage the alarm alert system (AAS)

Requirements:

  • Aged 21 and above
  • Ability to speak simple dialect preferred
  • Bilingual
  • Like to work with seniors
  • Must be able to volunteer during weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 9.30am to 6pm
  • Once a week for 3 hours

Befriender (Centre based)

  1. Accompany seniors in games like bingo and other table games
  2. Accompany seniors in reading newspapers
  3. Lend a listening ear to the seniors
  4. Assist the seniors in the conduct of activities

Requirements:

  • Like to work with seniors
  • Have patience in interaction with the seniors
  • Able to communicate with seniors
  • Must be able to volunteer during weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 9.30am to 6pm
  • Once a week for 3 hours

Befriender (Yumcha)

  1. Prepare the meals
  2. Serve meals breakfast and tea
  3. Set tables and clean up the activity area

Requirements:

  • Hygiene conscious
  • Must be able to volunteer during weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 9.30am to 6pm
  • Once a week for 3 hours

Befriender (Outings)

  1. Take attendance for seniors
  2. Ensure the safety of seniors
  3. Assist in transfer seniors around (wheel chair or walking aides)

Requirements:

  • Physically fit
  • Good organisation skills
  • Once in 3 months for 4 hours

Outreach volunteer

  1.  Door knocking at the 2 HDB seniors’ flats and go through the needs assessment surveys for profiling and monitoring well-being of seniors
  2. Create awareness of Centre programme by distribution flyers

Requirements:

  • Aged 18 and above
  • Able to communicate with the seniors
  • Physically fit
  • Good organisation skills
  • Once a year for 4 hours, usually at night

Technical/ Handyman volunteer

  1. Assist to repair various items for seniors including household items and wheelchairs

Requirements:

  • Aged 18 and above
  • Able to communicate with the seniors
  • Physically fit
  • Prior experience
  • Ad-hoc

Patient Chaperones

  1. Send elderly to medical appointment
  2. Accompany the elderly throughout the appointment
  3. Assist the elderly to understand the doctor’s explanation of medical condition
  4. Assist elderly with medication

Requirements:

  • Aged 18 and above
  • Able to communicate with the seniors
  • Physically fit
  • Able to volunteer during daytime
  • Ad-hoc
  • Preferably with own transport

  1. Adhoc decluttering for home care clients.

Group Volunteers

1. Meeting Practical Needs

  • Eg purchase and pack food rations items for elderly clients and distribute them door-to-door, house cleaning, home/mobility aid repairs.
  • Duration: Half a day to a day

2. Outings & Activities

  • Bring our elderly to places of attraction
  • Hold activities in conjunction with festive seasons e.g mid-autumn festival, Chinese New Year,
    National Day etc.

3. Needs Assessment

  • Join us as we go door-to-door to conduct Needs Assessment to find out what are the issues
    and needs these elderly face
  • Duration: Half a day to a day

Time: Flexible hours during weekdays (10am-6pm)
